The ZSL Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Zoo Community



The ZSL Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Zoo Community recognises individuals who have made an outstanding, long-term contribution to the zoo and aquarium community.



The award celebrates excellence and achievement in the core areas of zoo and aquarium activity, including ex situ and in situ conservation, education and scientific research. Candidates will have demonstrated the purpose of zoos for the benefit of the international conservation community, and contributed to the public understanding and support of species biodiversity and habitat conservation through education, public engagement and visitor experience, fundraising, the promotion of regional and international zoo cooperation, and standards of excellence in animal welfare.



Regulations
1. The award is given to an individual for distinguished contributions to the international zoo community.


2. The award cannot be given posthumously.


3. The award is not open to employees of ZSL or serving Council members.


4. The award will be made annually; only one award may be given in any calendar year. Candidates recommended but not selected for the award in any year may be reconsidered in the following year.


5. Nominations must be submitted with statement of recommendation, the candidate’s CV, two letters in support of the nomination and the names of two referees who may be contacted for additional information.

Nominations must be received no later than 1 December 2010. The winner will be announced early in 2011.
